Telekom Austria Group - Sustainability Report 2008/09

ForewordDear Readers,„Lisa heads for tomorrow“ is the title of the storybook that accompanies this Telekom Austria Group Sustainability Report. And of course the road that she takes because it will lead „to tomorrow“ refers to sustainability. The symbolism used in the book is simple: the coin, the heart and the tree are better off taking the journey to tomorrow together. But it very clearly makes the point that - for companies as well - the only way to ensure a viable long-term future is to take an integrated, all-encompassing view of the economic, social and ecological aspects of sustainable business. The Telekom Austria Group embarked on the path of sustainability quite some time ago. This is our fifth report since 2002, documenting how we balance our business goals with benefits for both individuals and society as a whole. In it we underline our commitment to sensible, responsible company management, with the aim of achieving sustainable shareholder growth and protecting the interests of our stakeholders in our social and regional sphere of action. We have shortened the interval at which we document the company's social and ecological performance to one year and have integrated our international subsidiaries into the key figure reporting to a greater degree. At the same time, we are steadily sharpening our sustainability profile by formulating principles of corporate social responsibility and doing more to entrench the sustainability process and sustainability management within the company. Because in no other area can it be more truly said that the journey itself is the reward. Or as Lisa puts it in our storybook: „Sustainability is the road to tomorrow. And you can only get to tomorrow if you hit the road.“
